State of the Industry: Experience, Engagement, Expectations

The hospitality industry, in my humble opinion, is the best industry one could be a part of. Where else are educational events, networking events, conferences and conventions common places that allow each of us the opportunity to grow and evolve both professionally and personally?

It’s an interesting time in our industry with the acquisitions of Starwood by Marriott and Fairmont by Accor that will redefine how the hotel landscape moves forward. Our January State of the Industry luncheon with Steve Pufpaf, Vice President of Sales with Marriott, provided a unique insight into the upcoming changes within the largest hotel company in the world. MPISCC’s 2nd annual (We)Con brought an abundance of new educational opportunities, keynote speakers and networking opportunities.

The trends for 2017 center around travel experiences, traveler engagement, in-room technology, continued growth within the sharing economy, expanded culinary options and the importance of company culture a retaining top talent.

Trends we’re noticing in 2017 center around:

  • Travel experiences
  • Traveler engagement
  • In-room technology
  • Continued growth within the sharing economy
  • Expanded culinary options
  • Importance of company culture & retaining top talent

Mobile check-in will continue to grow as every major hotel company now offers guests check-in via smart phone to avoid potential registration lines. Giving travelers the ability to control their guest experience completely through their smart phone is under development.

Focus on the millennial traveler will continue as this generation reaches over 80 million Americans over the next 20 years. Brands will seek to further emphasize experiential offerings coupled with common spaces, technology and culture.

Looking forward: Mark your calendars for the Beverly Laing Golf Tournament on March 27th; April 13th Rooftop Networking at The Standard, Downtown Los Angeles on April 13; our monthly educational program partnering with Disney Destinations at the Warner Center Marriott on May 11th ; and  our Annual Installation & Awards Dinner on June 7th at the Beverly Hilton.
